Father Miguel Grave de Peralta
Fr. Miguel Grave de Peralta, is the oldest son of Cuban political exiles. He was born in Jersey City and raised in the Hudson/Bergen County areas of New Jersey. Raised a Baptist, Fr. Miguel became an Episcopalian late during his undergraduate years at Messiah College, Grantham, Pennsylvania. After his first year at Princeton Theological Seminary, he was transferred to The General Theological Seminary, NY, where he obtained a Masters of Divinity degree and was later ordained in the Episcopal Church, Diocese of New Jersey.
In
1996, after stormy years as an Episcopal clergyman serving in diocesan, parish,
campus and hispanic ministry, Fr. Miguel joined and was ordained a priest in
the Orthodox Church where he served in the military. In 1998, Fr. Miguel made
his profession of faith to the Pope of Rome and was received in the Melkite
Catholic Eparchy of Newton by the Most Rev. JOHN Elya.
Since
then, Fr. Miguel has been an assistant priest at St. Ignatius of Antioch
Melkite Catholic Church, Augusta, Georgia. He has mostly done hospital
chaplaincy work, completing his 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education in 2002
and succesfully becoming a certified professional chaplain with the National
Association of Catholic Chaplains in 2003. He is presently Director of Pastoral
Care at St. Joseph Hospital and Parish Administrator at St. Ignatius Melkite
Church, both in Augusta. Fr. Miguel loves to teach, conduct retreats and spend
time with his family. He resides with his wife, the former Ana M. Rivas, in
Martinez, Georgia.
